Llanfendigaid Estate: Luxury Self Catering Accommodation In Wales

Llanfendigaid Estate Courses

All our courses last one day from 10am to 5pm and are run on-site in our old Cow Shed by instructors who are specialists in their domain. They are offered at the special flat rate of £400 to our guests for upto 10 people though you can bring fewer if you wish. It is a wonderful way to get to know more about the countryside we live in and learn some of the skills preserved by local people for centuries and can be done whatever the weather.

i) Tinkering workshops

Tinker’s Kitchen was set up three years ago from a small caravan in the Preseli Mountains using the awning as a kitchen and workshop. The idea of tinkering was a homage to the itinerant tinkers who hawked their handmade goods and repaired broken kitchen utensils. You are invited to join Mark Jones for a day and learn about making something from nothing except the things we find around us. Things that are made include pegs, spoons, catapults and bows & arrows and you will take home something you have made yourself probably from wood grown at Llanfendigaid.

ii) Wild Picking – the Foraging course

Jade Mellor has spent the last seven years making her living as a professional forager, trading as Wild Pickings. Jade has spent much time exploring and developing recipes and experimenting with wild food, developing this knowledge into a range of preserves, pickles and dried goods. She is focused on the whole cycle, from source to plate, spending hours alone in the wilds, gathering berries, blossoms, leaves, fruits and seaweeds, before bringing them back to her kitchen to turn them into something delicious. Jade picks what is seasonally abundant, with care and sensitivity, always leaving plenty to go to seed and for the birds. Come and join her for a day and learn what to pick (& what not to pick!) and then cook and eat it over an open fire.

iii) Willow Weaving and basket making:

Basket Making

Best known for her giant willow sculptures, Michelle Cain is a very well known willow weaver based in Wales and offers you the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating skill. Perhaps you will be able to make a basket before the day is out!
